Classic Brass is a professional brass quintet that has been entertaining Southeast
Minnesota for over 15 years.  Our eclectic musical repertoire includes traditional classical
favorites, jazz standards, Broadway show tunes, and more.  With hundreds of songs to
choose from, we can make your special day a true musical reflection of you.  With
classics like “Water Music” and “Canon in D” to fun-loving tunes like “Get me to the
Church on Time,” make your day special with the sound of brass!


Classic Brass is:

Horn – Ellington Bandel

Ellington is the editor of Rochester Women magazine and has been a member of Classic Brass
since 2000.  Ellington is also the principal horn for the Rochester Civic Music Concert band,
and plays in a local woodwind ensemble, Whirlwinds.

Trombone – Steve Williams

Steve works for the family business, Eagle Drug, and has been a member of Classic Brass
since 2000.  Steve is also a member of the Rochester Civic Music Concert band and
Trombones Anonymous.

Tuba – Eric Straubmuller

Eric is a stay-at-home dad, and works part-time at Dunn Brothers Coffee, and has been a
member of Classic Brass since 2000.  Eric is a member of the Rochester Community Band
and also plays with numerous combo groups around the Rochester area.

Trumpet – John Dahlen

John has been a member of Classic Brass since 2000.  He is also a
member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and the Rochester Civic Concert Band. He is a
native of Buffalo, Minnesota. John graduated from the University of Minnesota, where he was
a student of Gary Bordner, Principal Trumpet of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. He lives in
Rochester with wife Tracy and son Benny, and works in Software Group at IBM.

Trumpet – Warren Bandel

Warren is a freelance musician, trumpet teacher, and a founding member of Classic Brass.  
Warren currently plays for the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Swing Street jazz ensemble,
Rochester Civic Music Concert band, Rochester Community band, and SE MN favorite,
Incognito.  He also solos for numerous other functions around the area.
